The Americana Music Association will bestow its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award upon iconic vocalist Robert Plant during the 25th Annual Americana Honors & Awards ceremony, scheduled for Sept. 16 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The event serves as the crown jewel of the annual AMERICANAFEST celebrations.
Americana Music Association leadership praised the legendary performer’s transformative impact on global music culture. “Robert Plant’s relationship with Americana music extends far beyond influence—it is one of genuine passion, stewardship and artistic curiosity,” Jed Hilly, Executive Director of the Americana Music Association, said in an official statement. “His willingness to immerse himself in the traditions of blues, folk, country and gospel, while continuing to push their boundaries, has expanded the audience for Americana around the world. Few artists have done more to honor the music’s past while helping shape its future. We are thrilled to recognize his extraordinary contributions with the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.”
The silver anniversary AMERICANAFEST will feature member-voted honors across six competitive categories alongside performances from premier roots musicians. The inclusion of Plant among this year’s honorees places him alongside an elite lineage of legacy artists recognized for shaping the modern soundscape of roots music.
The accolade formally celebrates Plant’s enduring devotion to American roots music and his decades-long career spent exploring and reinventing traditional acoustic genres. Best known as the former lead singer of rock titans Led Zeppelin, Plant shifted significant creative energy toward blues, bluegrass, folk, and country traditions following his stadium-rock era. His celebrated partnership with vocalist Alison Krauss and producer T Bone Burnett yielded the 2007 album Raising Sand, a critically acclaimed project that earned multiple Grammy Awards and introduced millions of mainstream music fans to the depth of the Americana style. The landmark release proved pivotal for the genre, directly influencing the Recording Academy to create a dedicated Best Americana Album award category.
Plant further solidified his roots footprint through subsequent projects like his 2010 band Band of Joy—working alongside artists Buddy Miller and Patty Griffin—and a follow-up effort with Krauss on 2021’s Raise the Roof. More recently, he has continued delving into classic American songwriting alongside co-vocalist Suzi Dian in the group Saving Grace, covering acoustic tracks by influential figures such as Blind Willie Johnson, Memphis Minnie, and Gillian Welch. His award ceremony appearance immediately precedes a fresh United States concert tour with Saving Grace scheduled for later this fall.
