Neil Young and Chrome Hearts have announced their second studio album together, Second Song, which is scheduled for release Sept. 18 via Reprise Records. The seven-song collection follows 2025’s Talkin to the Trees and arrives alongside the debut of its 11-minute title track, offering fans an early preview of the veteran songwriter’s latest collaboration with the band.
The album blends newly written material with long-unreleased compositions from Young’s early songwriting years. According to Young, the recording sessions began at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, where the band completed five new songs before revisiting archival recordings that dated back to the early 1960s. The project was produced by Lou Adler along with Young and Niko Bolas, who also worked on the group’s previous album. Young has also said the recordings were captured simultaneously in analog and high-resolution digital formats, with both versions planned for release.
Second Song features seven tracks, including “The Foggy Edge Of Time,” “Day After Day,” “Earth Girl,” the title track, “Casting Me Away From You,” “Soon I Might Be Going,” and “I’ll Love You Forever.” Several of the songs written during Young’s teenage years remained unheard for decades before being rediscovered during the album’s creation, giving the record a blend of new material and deeply rooted archival work.
