Sublime have unveiled a new song, “Can’t Miss You,” from their upcoming album Until the Sun Explodes, marking the group’s first full-length release in nearly 30 years.
Until the Sun Explodes arrives June 12 and is the band’s first studio album since their 1996 self-titled project, released shortly after the death of original frontman Bradley Nowell. The album also includes previously released songs “Ensenada” and the title track “Until the Sun Explodes.”
The new era of Sublime features Bradley’s son, Jakob Nowell, taking over lead vocal duties. According to Jakob, “Can’t Miss You” holds special meaning for him and quickly became one of his favorite songs on the album.
“Can’t Miss You is probably my favorite track on the record,” he explained. “It was one of those magic songs that got written in a day.” He also noted that the song’s unusual chord progression was heavily influenced by his father’s writing style, particularly tracks like “Pool Shark” and “STP.”
Jakob added that classic Sublime songs often carried an unpredictable energy, saying, “you never knew where the song was going to take you.” He shared that he still looks to his father’s music for inspiration, calling the new single “a perfect example of that.”
