Collective Soul is transitioning its latest studio effort into a widespread commercial release. Originally distributed as an exclusive vinyl offering for Record Store Day on April 18, the band’s 13th studio album, “Touch and Go,” is slated for a broader rollout across retail and streaming channels this summer, with a physical compact disc edition arriving at major outlets on July 31. Previously, the album could only be obtained on 180-gram colored vinyl at participating brick-and-mortar independent retailers.
The 10-track record represents a distinct aesthetic shift for the Georgia-based quintet, which is recognized for their mid-1990s radio staples like “Shine,” “December,” and “The World I Know.” For this project, the ensemble integrated vintage synthesizers and rhythmic pop arrangements heavily influenced by late 1970s and early 1980s new wave pioneers. Frontman and primary songwriter Ed Roland noted that the band purposely leaned into melodic structures reminiscent of iconic rock groups like The Cars, Cheap Trick, and XTC.
The ongoing push for new material follows a highly active period for the group, which features a sustained core lineup of Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, lead guitarist Jesse Triplett, and drummer Johnny Rabb. Beyond the studio sessions for “Touch and Go,” the band recently completed a performance residency in Las Vegas and is currently promoting a career-spanning biographical documentary titled “Give Me A Word: The Collective Soul Story.” Parts of that cinematic project were captured at the historic Palm Springs estate of Elvis Presley, where Collective Soul also tracked their previous double album, “Here to Eternity.”
