My Chemical Romance to release expanded 20th Anniversary edition of ‘The Black Parade’

My Chemical Romance has officially announced an expanded 20th anniversary reissue of their landmark 2006 concept album, “The Black Parade”.

Set for release on Oct. 23 via Reprise Records, the comprehensive collection gathers the original 14-track record alongside six bonus tracks. The upcoming drop unites everything created during those landmark studio sessions into a single release, featuring three fan-favorite B-sides alongside three live recordings captured during an intimate October 2007 performance at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey. Among these live takes is the previously unreleased performance of “Someone Out There Loves You,” a song long sought after by dedicated followers.

To celebrate the milestone, the alternative rock group reflected on the enduring legacy of their third studio effort. “Twenty years ago, we wrote what would become The Black Parade, our third record and the follow up to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge,” the band stated. “At the time, we could never have imagined what the record would mean for the band. All we knew is that we had made something crazy, and something we couldn’t wait to get it out into the world”. They added, “Today, twenty years on, we celebrate its release. For the first time, we have included everything we finished during those sessions in a single collection”.

My Chemical Romance also collaborated with visual artist James Jean, who designed iconic original imagery for the initial release. “As importantly, we asked James Jean to revisit the world of The Black Parade and create three new pieces of art. What he has crafted is a beautiful collection of a few iconic characters from the record during that era. James is truly a one-of-a-kind artist, and so important to how this record was presented to the world. We are extremely grateful for meeting him all those years ago, and agreeing now to make something new,” the group shared. Expressing gratitude to their audience, they added, “Our hope is that you enjoy this collection of music and illustrations as much as we do, because we wanted to honor how timeless and enduring you’ve allowed it to be. Thank you for marching with us. To the death!”

Physical and digital formats are available for pre-order, including various vinyl variants, a laser-etched hologram edition, and a specialized audio package. Ahead of the release, a live recording of “The Sharpest Lives” from the 2007 Hoboken show was made available on digital streaming services, accompanied by archival footage originally included in their 2008 concert film. The announcement coincides with the band’s ongoing stadium tour, where they have been performing the landmark album in its entirety for fans across North America.
