Skillet will embark on a major North American headlining tour this fall to celebrate its seminal 2006 album, Comatose.
Produced by Live Nation, the upcoming “Comatose: 20 Years, Still Screaming Tour” will travel across the United States to honor the album that permanently shifted the band’s commercial trajectory. Simultaneously, the group dropped its new song, “Scream,” available to stream on digital platforms.
Frontman John Cooper noted that the band purposely revisited its creative origins to capture a new direction for the upcoming material. “We went back to Memphis and worked with a producer who knew the band before we’d made our first record,” Cooper said, adding that the sound heavily reflects both personal and global shifts. “Life has taken some some great turns, but it’s also taken some painful turns. Now we’re here, and we still have more of a story to tell. The music kept getting heavier, and I said, ‘We’ve got to go all in’ … I don’t think I’m the only one who’s noticing the volatility of the world and how social media is a cesspool where people are constantly yelling at each other. It’s not helping anyone’s mental health. In this landscape, it’s easy to feel like nothing matters. “Scream” is about wanting your life to matter when the world feels chaotic and overwhelming.”
Reflecting on the impact of the legacy record, Cooper recalled, “When we released our 2006 album, COMATOSE, we all had a feeling that we were making something special.” The musician elaborated that they remained unaware of its long-term power at the time, noting, “What we didn’t know is that the album would change the trajectory of the band’s career. It defined our sound, our message, and propelled the band into a much bigger level of notoriety.”
