Marshmello and Portugal. The Man team up on the track ‘Phoenix’

Portugal. The Man has teamed up with chart-topping producer Marshmello for a new collaborative single, “Phoenix.”

The track blends Marshmello’s polished, melodic production with the band’s signature warmth and introspective songwriting. Frontman John Gourley reflected on the experience, sharing, “Growing up in Alaska as the son of dog mushers, music never felt like a reachable world, so there’s still a part of me that can’t believe I get to work with people I’ve looked up to—especially someone like Marshmello.” He added, “Working on ‘Phoenix’ with him was incredibly fun and easy, no ego, no overthinking—just chasing the feeling until it stuck.”

As Gourley explained, “The song’s about that cycle—breaking down and coming back stronger—and I’m grateful for the trust and energy he brought into it.” That theme comes through in the track’s bright instrumentation and infectious rhythm, highlighted by the lyric: “There’s something in the air, I can feel it / Lovers coming back to life.”

Marshmello continues to demonstrate his versatility by collaborating across genres. His past work includes partnerships with major pop and alternative acts, as well as a groundbreaking crossover hit with country star Kane Brown, “Miles On It,” which made history by debuting at No. 1 on both the dance/electronic and country charts.

Meanwhile, Portugal.
